That “Stall Smell” is Actually Ammonia From Urea
Smells like ammonia? Smelling closer to ground level – where your horse’s nostrils are – is a good start to seeing how bad
the ammonia level might actually be. But using your nose alone can be misleading. We’ve measured stalls (cleaned only
two days earlier) at 120 ppm ammonia. The EPA/OSHA limit for humans is 25 to 50 ppm depending on exposure time. The owner didn’t think their stalls smelled bad.
After one application of Bye Bye Odor, 24 hours later the ammonia levels were reduced to 10-15 ppm.
Bye Bye Odor Awarded Horse Journal's Best Buy
“Within days of starting to use Bye Bye Odor, our barn smelled terrific!”
Although it takes a couple of days to really notice the difference, once that was done we became nearly addicted to using this spray.
A daily light mist was all it took to keep the stalls fresh, as well as any equipment we wanted to deodorize. It has a fresh, natural
scent that is not strong enough to be a cover-up, it simply keeps working. We could deodorize virtually anything. We sprayed the
stall bedding, walls, barn aisle, wheelbarrow and pitchforks.
Our Best Buy is Bye Bye Odor. It’s inexpensive and easy to use in
a garden sprayer. A mixture of 2.5 gallons lasted us about a month on one stall, making the cost pennies per day. Also available in
a ready-to-use trigger-spray bottle, but that’s more suited for smaller items like pet stains or boots.
What Others Are Saying
“I have been using this product for 7 months now and it does what it says! I have a 5 stall barn with a mare in
foal, a senior with a very large bladder, and a horse that walks round and round in the stall mixing everything in very
well. But, this product works exactly as advertised every time I use it. Initially I was using a lot, soaking the
really heavy pee spots. When I ordered from Spalding again so soon, he questioned why am I going through so much?
He said “only mist it, don't douse it.” He was right, 2 1/2 gallon sprayer from Lowes and mix the Bye Bye Odor with
water and the odor is GONE!”

Indoor And Outdoor Use
The inflammation caused by even low levels of ammonia can affect your horses performance and result in severe respiratory problems. Yet the danger of ammonia is under-appreciated
by most horse owners. It’s just that “stall smell” we’ve gotten used to. However, we aren’t in the stall or trailer for many hours every day
and our noses are 5-6 feet above the surface. Ammonia is heavier than air so it is near ground level, closer to where your horse’s nostrils are.
More on Ammonia and Equine Respiratory Health
Bye Bye Odor is a highly concentrated yet safe, microbial solution especially formulated to substantially reduce or eliminate a wide
range of organic odors associated with animal urine and manure. Unlike other products that soak up and cover up the ammonia smell,
Bye Bye Odor‘s high concentration of microbes actually consume the organics causing the smell and creating the ammonia. Bye Bye
Odor doesn’t just make stalls smell better, it makes them healthier.
Bye Bye Odor comes as a super concentrate ($19.95) that is diluted with water before use. Simply pour the concentrate from the
4 oz bottle into a clean 2-3 gallon garden-type, pump up sprayer and add tap water. Clean your stall as you normally do then spray
a generous mist of Bye Bye Odor every day on the wet spots. It’s quick and easy. The 4 oz. bottle is enough for 5 stalls for one
month. For larger barns Bye Bye Odor also comes in a large 32 oz. concentrate ($119.95) that makes 20 gallons, which is enough for
40 horses for one month. Once the concentrate is opened and mixed with tap water, it must be used within 60 days.
Horse owners love “barn smells.” Leather, shavings, liniment, hay, tack, that sweet horse smell … it is all part of barn
life. Most people accept the smell of ammonia as just part of the deal. Eliminate that smell and you will come to appreciate
all those “good” smells more and no longer be willing to tolerate the bad ones.
We offer an inexpensive ($4.50) single use tester that will accurately measure the ammonia level in your stalls and barn. We urge
all horse owners to test and make sure you’re not subjecting your animals to the dangers of ammonia.
Bye Bye Odor also works for: Trailers (front and back). Pour ½ bottle of the 4 oz. concentrate each time you have the
living quarters waste water tank emptied to keep it smelling fresh. Spray the back of the trailer to reduce ammonia levels
from horse urine.
Smart Tip: Flies are attracted to manure odors. By using Bye Bye Odor in your barn you will reduce the odor and have fewer flies coming to
visit. For a more complete approach to fly control check out Spalding Fly Predators. Fly Predators are a natural way to greatly reduce your
fly population each summer.
