Will the odor fly traps catch face flies?

  • Debra,

Unfortunately odor traps do not work on true face flies, they will however work on house flies that also like to spend a lot of time on the face.  Face flies and horn flies both are only capable of breeding in fresh undisturbed cow patties and are not able to breed in any other kind of manure.  If you have pastured cattle or there are pastured cattle nearby then you are probably getting both house flies and face flies, so the odor traps would help some.  If the pastured cattle are yours, you can also reduce face fly numbers by dragging you pastures weekly or biweekly to help break up cow patties before the flies have a chance to develop.

    Thank you,

    Jessica

  • We have used your fly predators for years so I do not know why we don't have an "account" with you. We have no house flies as a result of using fly predators. Face flies are always a summer problem as we have neighbors with cattle. Face flies disappear at the first sign of rain and reappear when the sun comes out. So if there is a fly trap that mimics the places they hide from rain it should work. Any suggestions?

  • Richard,

Unfortunately there really aren't any reliable traps for face flies.  You will occassionally catch them on sticky traps, such as StarBar EZ traps, but it's a random catch as they are not actually attracted to the traps.  When the face flies seek shelter from rain, they are moving in to any type of shelter, whether it's buildings, trees, shrubs, etc. so there is not really a way for a trap to mimic that.  If you have any other questions, please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Jessica
